Our Philosophy
Building the Coaching Café partnership has been a journey of discovery and enrichment. We come from very diverse professional backgrounds:
Lynne via Language, Psychology, and People Process Management, into Learning Design and Facilitation.
Mary via leadership, design and facilitation across the whole spectrum of Business and Information Strategy and Architecture, into coaching.
There are many theoretical underpinnings we use in our work, but there are four which have been instrumental in transforming who we are and that we apply both personally and professionally:
Authenticity
Authenticity is all about knowing which values are important to you, what you aspire towards and what your natural talents are. Managing your life and relationships in line with your true self requires Emotional Intelligence — a skill that can be developed through coaching.
Authentic Leadership encourages leaders to become aware of (and appreciate) who they are to help them understand, connect and align better with those they lead. Our clients tell us they experience better work-life balance, more energy, more confidence and increased influence as a result.
Solution Focus
For anyone who deals with technical problems, understanding the causes is an important part of solving them. But when it comes to solving people problems, spending too much time focusing on causes makes us experts on the problem — and gets us no closer to finding a solution.
Applying Solution Focus has honed our ability to listen for and identify the potential for forward movement. Powerful, future-oriented questioning creates more clarity, confidence, creativity and transformation for our clients.
Application of Strengths
Knowing your strengths and being able to use them to their full potential creates confidence and engagement. By highlighting people’s strengths, we encourage them to acknowledge and develop what they do well, rather than focusing on what they need to improve.
Focusing on strengths acts as a springboard for our own development, as well as that of our clients. It offers a different perspective for viewing the benefits of differences in others and positively impacts relationships.
Skilled learning
The definition of a skill is the knowledge and ability that enables you to do something well. So, becoming a skilled learner means learning how to learn.
